Hi Church,
We have arrived at the end of 2025 in the time of celebration but also grief as we remember all those who lost their life due to terrorism just over a week ago. Whilst this is tragic in every way, we must not let evil have the final say. Our celebration of Jesus incarnation into this dark world with His glorious light is a necessity so that we are reminded that without Him we have very little to celebrate.
My preaching on Sunday took up the theme of Light and Darkness and how Jesus is light personified breaking into sins and deaths dark hold over the world. Light and dark were the themes spoken about at the Bondi beach memorial for the victims of the shooting. It was a very moving time as each person’s name was read out and their primary legacy was used as an example of light for everyone to follow. May we remember them.
However, it is likely after some time that many will forget as life has a way of moving us rapidly away from significant moments. Who then will be our light to follow? Well, it’s here that we must come back to the Messiah, Emmanuel, God with us. His every word and deed lit a path for us to follow and emulate. His written word is a lamp unto our feet. His Spirit lives in each one of us lighting up a path for us to walk with confidence. But we must see it and choose daily to walk in it not just know about it.
This Christmas why not light some candles in your home to remind you of those that were taken by evil and remember them, remember their light. Also light a candle to remind you of the light Jesus brings you and how he has transformed you out of darkness into his beautiful, magnificent kingdom of light for all eternity. Then light a candle to remind you that you carry His light into this dark world.
From my family to yours we pray that you enjoy a wonderful Christmas season and a Joyful New Year.
Love Ps Greg and Amanda
