HI Church,

What an inspiring moment to gather with the youth and children of Grace Church and pray over 140 Operation Christmas Child boxes before sending them to children in need around the world. We send them as Gospel seeds, believing for a Kingdom harvest. Thank you, Church, for your generosity, and thank you to Graeme Kightley for tirelessly raising awareness and organising the dispatch.

We also paid tribute to Kevin Carter, who went to be with Jesus on Tuesday night, 6 October. Though Kevin was with us only a short time, he made a big difference as an Alpha leader and in his life group. We pray for peace and comfort for his wife, Grace, his family, and relatives Matt and Bree Brown.

Continuing in Matthew 12, we saw Jesus confront the religious leaders and reveal that He is greater than every place, performance and human picture of greatness. He is greater than the temple because God’s presence is fully found in Him. Worship is more than attending church or following familiar practices; it is drawing near to Christ with hearts shaped by mercy, obedience and love.

Jesus is also Lord of the Sabbath. He invites the weary to find rest in Him and shows that true devotion is not cold performance, but compassion that sees need and chooses to do good. Matthew also presents Jesus as God’s promised Servant—gentle, patient and faithful. He does not crush the bruised or extinguish flickering faith but perseveres in love until His saving work is complete.

This is the greatness we are called to reflect. Let us honour our gatherings while treasuring Jesus above routine. Let us receive His rest, extend His grace and choose humble service over self-promotion. This week, ask: Do my worship, relationships and daily choices reveal the presence, compassion and servant-hearted love of Jesus? Do I show he is greater than anything else in my life?

I’m excited for this weekend for two reasons. First, Don and Claire Lagerwall are competing in the Ironman event—go team! Please pray for their health, safety and strength to finish well. Second, Wayne and Jenny Wiliamson will preach on Sunday morning and night. They carry God’s heart of love, grace and Holy Spirit power, bringing Kingdom breakthrough without striving. You will be greatly encouraged—don’t miss it.

Love and Blessings
